Parakram Diwas 2025: Honoring Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in the Land of His Beginnings

002 19

As India celebrates Parakram Diwas 2025, the focus turns to Cuttack, Odisha—the birthplace of one of the nation’s most inspiring leaders, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The historic Barabati Fort, a symbol of Odisha’s rich past, serves as the perfect venue to honor Netaji’s legacy and reflect on his contributions to the freedom movement.

Subhas Chandra Bose, who was born on January 23, 1897, was greatly impacted by the thriving intellectual culture of Cuttack. The teachings of Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo, and the visionary headmaster Beni Madhab Das at Ravenshaw Collegiate School gave him a strong sense of purpose and patriotism. The revolutionary leader who would later confront the British Empire with an unorthodox and tenacious strategy was molded by this foundation.

Netaji embodied the ideals of resilience, adopting a non-dogmatic and innovative strategy to achieve India’s independence. The Indian National Army (INA), which he founded, was a testament to his alternative vision. He inspired the INA with three powerful principles: “Ittefaq, Iman, aur Qurbani”—Unity, Faith, and Sacrifice. These guiding words remain timeless, urging the youth of India to embrace these values as the country strides through its Amrit Kaal. Suppose the current generation, the Amrit Peedi, follows Netaji’s ideals. In that case, they can help realize the vision of a developed India (Vikasit Bharat) by the centenary of independence—a fitting tribute to his legacy.

Parakram Diwas has become a celebration of courage and unity, and this year’s event in Cuttack reflects the genesis of Netaji’s revolutionary journey. Featuring cultural performances, immersive exhibitions, and sand art showcasing his life, the celebrations inspire the youth to emulate his principles of integrity and service.

As the sun sets over Barabati Fort, echoing with cries of “Jai Hind,” we honor a leader whose vision of unity and unwavering determination continues to guide the nation toward greatness.
