MUMBAI – Tom Cruise’s swan song as Ethan Hunt has begun with a bang. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (aka Mission: Impossible 8) has crossed the ₹150 crore milestone at the global box office just three days into its theatrical run—well ahead of its official US release slated for May 23.
In India, however, the film saw a noticeable drop on its first Monday. After collecting ₹16.5 crore on Saturday and ₹17 crore on Sunday, its earnings fell by approximately 60.88% to ₹6.75 crore on day three. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film’s total India gross now stands at ₹40.25 crore.
Breaking down the Indian collections:
- English version: ₹26 crore
- Hindi dub: ₹11.95 crore
- Telugu: ₹1.4 crore
- Tamil: ₹0.8 crore
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, The Final Reckoning pits Ethan Hunt and his IMF team against their most dangerous enemy yet—a rogue artificial intelligence known as “The Entity” that threatens global destruction. The high-octane thriller features an ensemble cast including Hayley Atwell, Angela Bassett, Ving Rhames, Pom Klementieff, Simon Pegg, and Henry Czerny.
The film had its glamorous premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, earning a thunderous five-minute standing ovation. And while Cruise’s character may be nearing the end of his mission, the actor himself isn’t slowing down.
In a red carpet interview, Cruise confirmed: “It’s the final. It’s not called ‘Final Reckoning’ for nothing.” However, he also teased his fans with this bold promise: “I’ll keep making movies into my 100s.”
With anticipation building toward its US debut, all eyes are on whether this final chapter will top the franchise’s previous records—and what comes next for Cruise’s legendary career.
Interesting to see such a significant drop in earnings on the first Monday—what do you think caused this sharp decline? The film’s performance at Cannes was impressive, but does that hype translate to box office success in India? It’s fascinating how the Indian audience’s response contrasts with the global buzz. I wonder if the film’s content or marketing missed the mark here. Also, with Tom Cruise’s career at a pivotal point, do you think this film will redefine his legacy? What’s your take on whether the US debut will break records? Would love to hear your thoughts!
