Line of Control (LoC), India-Pakistan Border:
In a tragic escalation of violence along the India-Pakistan border, six individuals — including civilians and security personnel — were killed and over 30 others injured following intense shelling by Pakistani forces on Tuesday, according to official sources.

The mortar and artillery shelling reportedly targeted forward posts and civilian settlements in the Poonch and Rajouri sectors of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistani forces began the unprovoked attack early morning, prompting the Indian Army to launch a strong retaliatory strike.

Retaliation and Response

“Indian troops are responding in equal measure,” said a senior defense official. “All forward units are on high alert, and retaliatory fire has been directed precisely at the origin of the Pakistani shelling.”

The injured have been moved to nearby military and district hospitals. Some are reportedly in critical condition. Local villagers caught in the crossfire have been shifted to safer zones by the administration.

Civilians Bear the Brunt

Among those killed were at least two civilians, including a child, sources said. Homes and infrastructure in several border villages suffered damage, reigniting fear among residents already accustomed to living under the shadow of gunfire.

Rising Tensions and Diplomatic Concerns

This latest incident marks a serious violation of the ceasefire agreement signed in February 2021. Since then, sporadic skirmishes had largely reduced, until recent weeks saw an uptick in hostilities.

Indian diplomatic channels are expected to raise the issue with international forums, while security experts suggest the move could be a deliberate provocation ahead of key geopolitical developments.

Call for Calm Amid Escalation

As tensions soar, calls for peace and diplomatic engagement are growing louder. “Every life lost is a tragedy. Dialogue remains the only viable solution to avoid bloodshed,” said a senior analyst.
