The 88-year-old visionary breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad, succumbing to heart-related complications. Rao had been grappling with age-related ailments for the past few years, and his health took a turn for the worse recently.

Born on November 18, 1936, in Pedaparupudi of Krishna district, he hailed from a simple farming family. His parents, Venkatasubbamma and Venkata Subbarao, named him Ramaiah in memory of his grandfather, life was imbued with piety and purity, thanks to his mother’s influence.
Ramaji Rao passed away, leaving behind a legacy that began in the most humble of settings. Rao completed his education in Gudivada before venturing into the business world. His entrepreneurial journey commenced in 1962 with the establishment of the Margadarshi Chit Fund. This initial step paved the way for his illustrious career in media and entertainment.
Ramoji Rao’s impact on Indian journalism remains unparalleled. In 1969, he entered the media industry with the launch of Annadata. However, it was the inception of the Eenadu daily on August 10, 1974, that truly revolutionised the Telugu press. Eenadu introduced the contributor system, a first in the country, setting new standards in journalism and media practices.
Ramoji Rao’s contributions to the film industry continue to resonate. Through Ushakiran Movies, he produced numerous acclaimed films, such as “Pratighatana,” “Maunaporatam,” “Judgment,” “Mayuri,” and “Kanchana Ganga.” His dedication to quality and innovation in cinema earned him widespread recognition and respect.
Ramoji Rao’s influence extended beyond media and cinema. His visionary leadership and business acumen led to the creation of Ramoji Film City, one of the largest film studio complexes in the world. This monumental achievement is a testament to his relentless pursuit of excellence and creativity.
