As the Maha Kumbh Mela, which attracts millions of devotees from all over the world, gets underway, the holy city of Prayagraj is ablaze with spiritual zeal. The world’s greatest spiritual gathering began at the Triveni Sangam, which is the meeting point of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the ethereal Saraswati rivers, with the ‘Shahi Snan’ on the auspicious day of Paush Purnima.
The auspicious Punya Kaal for Makar Sankranti begins at 9:03 AM and lasts until 5:46 PM, with the Maha Punya Kaal between 9:03 AM and 10:48 AM being the most favorable time for bathing, chanting, and charity.
Devotees rise early before sunrise to celebrate, cleanse their homes with Gangajal, and purify themselves with a holy bath. Those unable to visit the Ganga can mix Gangajal with water at home. Wearing yellow attire, they offer water and sesame seeds to the Sun God, recite the Surya Chalisa, and perform Aarti. Charity, tarpan, and pinddaan for ancestors are also key rituals of the day.
Makar Sankranti symbolizes renewal, devotion, and gratitude, reminding us of the Sun God’s vital role in sustaining life and spiritual growth.
