ISRO’s Historic 100th Mission: Countdown Begins for NVS-02 Launch

002 25

India’s space odyssey has reached a major milestone as the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) formally began the 27-hour countdown for its historic 100th mission. The NVS-02 navigation satellite will be launched into orbit by a GSLV rocket from Sriharikota on January 29 at 6:23 AM. Being the first launch under ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan’s direction after his appointment on January 13 makes this one more noteworthy.

The NVS-02 is the second satellite in the NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation) series, designed to provide highly accurate position, velocity, and timing information across India and neighboring regions. Weighing 2,250 kg, the satellite features advanced navigation payloads operating on L1, L5, and S bands, with a ranging payload on the C-band. It will enhance applications such as maritime navigation, fleet management, precision agriculture, and emergency services.

The GSLV-F15 mission follows the successful launch of NVS-01 in May 2023. ISRO’s ambitious plan includes deploying five second-generation NavIC satellites to ensure robust and reliable navigation services. With high hopes, ISRO believes this mission will further strengthen India’s self-reliance in satellite-based navigation technology.
