The Hindi film industry is mourning the loss of one of its most iconic stars as veteran actor Dharmendra passed away on Monday at the age of 89. Among the many voices that rose in grief, Amitabh Bachchan’s emotional tribute stood out for its depth, warmth, and the shared legacy between the two legends.

Amitabh Bachchan Remembers a Giant Beyond Cinema

Taking to his personal blog on Monday night, Amitabh Bachchan expressed a profound sense of loss upon hearing of Dharmendra’s passing. His words captured the emotional void left by a man he considered not just a colleague, but a cherished friend.

“Another valiant Giant has left us, left the arena, leaving behind a silence with an unbearable sound,” he wrote, describing the magnitude of Dharmendra’s departure.

Bachchan reflected on Dharmendra’s unmatched persona — a blend of physical strength, cinematic power, and extraordinary humility. He noted that Dharmendra carried with him the simplicity of rural Punjab, never allowing fame or glamour to dilute his authenticity.

A Legacy Rooted in Warmth and Humanity

Amitabh highlighted qualities that made Dharmendra a rare presence in the industry: his unaffected charm, his grounded nature, and his genuine warmth toward everyone who crossed his path.

“His smile, his charm and his warmth, extending to all that came in his vicinity, a rarity in the profession,” he wrote, honoring the human being behind the superstar image.

A Cinematic Journey Shared Across Decades

The duo created unforgettable moments on screen, beginning with Dost (1974), followed by classics such as Chupke Chupke and the legendary Sholay (1975), where their chemistry set benchmarks for Hindi cinema. Their collaborations continued with films like Naseeb, Ram Balram, and Hum Kaun Hain.

Their bond transcended film sets — it was rooted in mutual respect and affection.

Concluding his tribute, Amitabh wrote poignantly:

“The air about us swings vacant, a vacuum that shall ever remain vacuus.”

Dharmendra’s Final Journey

Dharmendra, who had been struggling with health concerns in recent weeks, passed away at his Juhu residence on 24 November. Earlier reports speculating his death weeks prior were denied by the family, but the actor’s health had remained fragile. He was cremated at the Pavan Hans Crematorium on Monday afternoon.

With his passing, Indian cinema has lost one of its most luminous stars — a man whose presence shaped eras, whose performances defined generations, and whose humility made him timeless.
