EC Uploads Names of Voters Removed from Bengal Rolls Prior to 2026 Elections

001 13

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released a significant update to the state’s voter database as West Bengal gets ready for Assembly elections that are set for early next year. A list of voters whose names were eliminated from the 2026 draft electoral lists was uploaded by the Commission on Tuesday morning.

Those who were registered to vote in 2025 but are not listed in the recently released draft rolls are included in the list. The information has been posted on the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal’s official website to guarantee openness and public access.

Over 58 Lakh Names Removed After Verification Drive

According to officials associated with the exercise, the deletions followed a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. During this revision, more than 58 lakh enumeration forms could not be verified or collected. Based on this verification, names were removed for several reasons, including:

Voters no longer residing at their listed addresses

Permanent relocation to another place

Death of the registered voter

Multiple registrations in different constituencies

The Commission stated that such revisions are conducted to keep the electoral rolls accurate and up to date ahead of elections.

Opportunity to Reclaim Voter Status

The Election Commission has clarified that eligible voters who believe their names were removed in error can seek correction. Affected individuals can file claims using Form 6, along with a declaration form and necessary documents.

The claims and objections period will remain open from December 16, 2025, to January 15, 2026, allowing sufficient time for corrections before the final rolls are published.

Focus on Electoral Accuracy Ahead of Polls

West Bengal’s Assembly has 294 seats, and with elections approaching, the voter list revision has drawn attention across political and public spheres. While the Commission maintains that the process follows established rules, the scale of deletions has made voter awareness and verification especially important.

Voters are advised to check their status early and submit claims within the deadline to avoid missing the opportunity to participate in the upcoming democratic exercise.
