Ibadan, 30 May 2024 – In a groundbreaking achievement for India’s burgeoning space sector, Agnikul Cosmos has successfully launched its 3D-printed semi-cryogenic rocket, Agnibaan, from its launch pad at Sriharikota. This historic sub-orbital test flight marks a significant milestone for the start-up and the country’s private space industry.

Agnikul Cosmos launched the Agnibaan rocket in a controlled vertical ascent, achieving all mission objectives with nominal performance. The success of this flight underscores the company’s innovative approach, which includes the design of the vehicle in-house and the use of a single-piece 3D-printed engine to power the flight.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, celebrating this milestone, remarked, “A remarkable feat which will make the entire nation proud! The successful launch of the Agnibaan rocket, powered by the world’s first single-piece 3D-printed semi-cryogenic engine, is a momentous occasion for India’s space sector and a testament to the remarkable ingenuity of our Yuva Shakti. My best wishes to the Agnikul Cosmos team for their future endeavours.”

Echoing the Prime Minister’s sentiments, Pawan Goenka, Chairman of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), stated, “Elated at the successful launch of Agnibaan SOrTeD by Agnikul Cosmos. A historic moment for India’s space sector. Powered by the world’s first single-piece 3D-printed semi-cryogenic engine, this achievement showcases the brilliance of our young innovators.”

The Agnibaan rocket, launched by Agnikul Cosmos, is a customizable, two-stage launch vehicle designed to carry payloads of up to 300 kg to orbits nearly 700 km in altitude. This launch vehicle represents a leap forward in space technology, emphasizing flexibility and cost-efficiency in satellite deployment.

Lt Gen A K Bhatt (retd), Director General of the Indian Space Association (ISpA), also praised the launch, saying, “This is a huge boost and a proud moment for India’s thriving private space industry and just a glimpse into what the future holds for us.
