Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is set to take his cricketing journey overseas once again. After being sidelined from Team India for an extended period, Chahal has decided to join English county cricket, signing a deal with Northamptonshire for the 2025 season. This move comes ahead of IPL 2025, where he will first be seen in action before heading to England.
Chahal, who was part of India’s victorious squad in the 2024 T20 World Cup but did not get a chance to play, has been eager to stay competitive and gain more game time. His return to Northamptonshire marks his second stint with the club, having previously played for them in 2023. During his first tenure, he delivered an outstanding performance, claiming 19 wickets in four matches at an impressive average of 21.10. Additionally, he made a remarkable impact in List A cricket, grabbing five wickets for just 14 runs against Kent.
Expressing his excitement, Chahal shared, “I had a fantastic experience with Northamptonshire last season, and I’m thrilled to be back. The dressing room atmosphere was incredible, and I look forward to contributing once again. We finished strong last time, and I hope we can build on that momentum to secure big wins this season.”
Northamptonshire’s head coach, Darren Lehmann, welcomed Chahal’s return with enthusiasm, stating, “Having one of the world’s top leg-spinners back is a huge boost for us. His experience and skill will add great value to the team.”
With this move, Chahal aims to sharpen his skills in English conditions while keeping himself ready for any future opportunities with Team India. His commitment to staying in top form demonstrates his dedication to the sport and his hunger for success.
