The highly anticipated trailer for Kannappa — featuring Akshay Kumar in his first-ever Telugu role as Lord Shiva — has finally dropped, stirring a wave of mixed reactions across social media. Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, the mythological drama boasts a star-studded cast including Prabhas, Mohanlal, Vishnu Manchu, Kajal Aggarwal, and Mohan Babu.
While the trailer marks a noticeable upgrade from its earlier teaser, netizens remain divided in their verdict.
Visual Appeal Meets Spiritual Undertone
Fans praised the trailer’s spiritual essence and visual grandeur. “Visually grand, spiritually rooted — Kannappa trailer hits the right divine notes!” a user shared. Another wrote, “The trailer exceeded expectations. Loved the real locations instead of the usual green screen effects.”
Mixed Bag: Plot Reveals, CGI & Execution Under Scrutiny
However, many viewers felt underwhelmed. Several critics pointed out that despite the improved visuals, the CGI looked subpar and the costumes appeared “trashy.” One user quipped, “The trailer feels like a TV serial with amateurish execution. Prabhas is the only one who truly shines.”
Another harsh review read, “Kannappa looks like it was shot on a YouTuber’s weekend vlog budget. Even school events have better production value.”
Fans also criticized the trailer for giving away too much of the plot and felt that the cameos from big stars like Mohanlal and Prabhas lacked impact.
Imitation or Innovation?
Some viewers were particularly disappointed with the setting, comparing it unfavorably to Western series. “This looks like a cheap knock-off of Vikings! Why not stick to our rich native aesthetics like Baahubali, KGF, or Devara?” asked one viewer.
Another added, “Stop using Prabhas as a marketing hook if he’s only making a cameo. It’s misleading!”
About the Film
Kannappa follows the spiritual journey of a brave devotee of Lord Shiva, played by Vishnu Manchu. Akshay Kumar’s portrayal of Shiva brings divine gravitas, while Mohanlal’s cameo promises wisdom and calm strength. The film also stars Preity Mukhundhan and will hit cinemas on June 27.
As the countdown to its release begins, Kannappa stands at a crossroads — with high expectations from mythological film lovers and skepticism from eagle-eyed critics.
