Along with China, the US, and Germany, India is one of just four countries with more than 100 gigawatts of solar capacity, solidifying its position as a global solar giant. UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell acknowledged India’s accomplishments and praised the country for not just establishing ambitious clean energy goals but also achieving tangible outcomes.
During his speech at the ET Now Global Business Summit, Stiell emphasized how India is lowering energy intensity and promoting economic growth. He praised programs like the International Solar Alliance and India’s resolve to electrify communities before their time. But to unlock more economic and social benefits, he called on the nation to adopt even more drastic measures, proposing a more robust climate strategy under the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
Stiell stressed that there is an unmatched chance to lower emissions, create jobs, and raise living standards thanks to the clean energy revolution. Additionally, he reminded industrialized countries of their responsibility to support emerging economies with sufficient climate money.
India is leading the clean energy transition because to Prime Minister Modi’s LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) policy and a booming renewable energy sector. India’s emergence as a green energy powerhouse appears inevitable as companies and the government work together, bringing prosperity to the country’s 1.4 billion citizens.
