The Indian government has strongly advised Indian citizens who are currently in Iran to leave as soon as possible by any means possible as tensions in the country continue to increase. Concerns over the safety of foreign residents, including roughly 9,000 Indians, have increased as a result of the alert, which comes amid a fast-changing security climate.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reaffirmed on Friday that it is still completely committed to safeguarding Indian nationals overseas and is keeping a careful eye on local events. According to MEA spokeswoman Randhir Jaiswal, the situation is especially delicate because most Indians living in Iran are students.
“We have issued multiple advisories over the past few days based on the changing ground situation,” Jaiswal said. “Indians in India have been advised to avoid travel to Iran, and those currently there have been asked to leave by whatever means are available.”
The Indian government, while not announcing a formal evacuation plan yet, is reportedly working on contingency measures should the situation deteriorate further. These preparations are aimed at ensuring a coordinated and safe return for those who wish to come back home.
Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Tehran urged all Indian nationals in Iran to register themselves with the mission to help authorities track their presence and provide timely assistance if required. However, officials acknowledged that registration has progressed slowly due to internet shutdowns in certain regions of the country.
To overcome this hurdle, the MEA has advised family members of Indians in Iran to complete the registration process on their behalf through the ministry’s official online portal. The government has emphasized the importance of staying connected with official channels and following verified advisories closely.
At present, there is no official evacuation operation underway, but authorities have assured that all necessary steps will be taken to safeguard Indian nationals if circumstances demand urgent action.
