ITANAGAR, 10 May 2025 – The Himalayan Institute of Nursing at Himalayan University (HU) came alive with celebration and reverence as students, faculty, and guests gathered to mark International Nurses Day—a tribute to the frontline heroes whose care and compassion define global healthcare.
With the theme highlighting “Our Nurses. Our Future. The Economic Power of Care,” the celebration honored the commitment, resilience, and selfless service of nurses, both in India and around the world.
“Nurses Are the Soul of Healthcare”
HU’s Head Administrator Reyoni Ete delivered a stirring keynote address, applauding nurses for their steadfast dedication, especially in challenging times. “Nurses don’t just treat illnesses—they educate, support, and nurture entire communities,” Ete emphasized, capturing the essence of their far-reaching role in society.
Ete also reminded the audience that the nursing profession is evolving rapidly, becoming not just essential but central to healthcare reform and innovation.
A Day of Talent, Gratitude & Culture
The event featured a vibrant cultural programme, with nursing students showcasing traditional dances, melodious songs, and a skit that highlighted the emotional strength and professional challenges faced by nurses.
HU HR Counsellor Omem Apang, faculty members, and students came together in solidarity to honor the profession and express heartfelt thanks.
The celebration reached its emotional peak when Head of the Nursing Department, Yapu Lida, addressed the gathering. “Today is not just a day of celebration—it’s a moment to recognize the invisible strength that nurses carry every day. We owe our gratitude to every healthcare professional who stands by us in our most vulnerable moments,” Lida shared.
Global Message, Local Celebration
While the event was rooted in cultural richness and academic recognition, the message was universal: Nurses are not just caregivers; they are change agents in global health systems.
As the world continues to evolve, HU’s celebration stood as a reminder that empowering and appreciating nurses is critical to building a healthier future.
