China is making a bold statement of power by constructing the world’s largest military command center—one that will dwarf the U.S. Pentagon by nearly ten times. This massive complex, dubbed the “Beijing Military City,” is being built in western Beijing and is designed to function as a wartime command hub. The facility will feature bomb-proof bunkers capable of protecting China’s civil and military leadership, even in the event of a nuclear attack.
According to U.S. intelligence, satellite images reveal an enormous construction site spanning approximately 1,500 acres, located about 30 kilometers southwest of Beijing. Since mid-2024, at least 100 cranes have been actively working on deep underground facilities spread across a five-square-kilometer area. This military installation aligns with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s ambitions as the country’s military approaches its 100th anniversary in 2027.
Strategically, this project raises concerns for the U.S. and India, as it signifies China’s increasing military preparedness. Intelligence reports also link the timeline of this project with a possible future conflict over Taiwan. With tensions rising in the Indo-Pacific, this development further cements China’s intention to challenge U.S. dominance and reshape global military dynamics.
