The Hindu Lunar Calendar’s Chaitra Navratri, or Vasant Navratri, is the start of the new year. Puja and Muhurat Rituals: The lunar calendar is used to establish the daily auspicious hours for the Navratri puja. Adherents get up early, bathe in a ritual, and put on new clothes. An idol or image of Goddess Durga is set in the middle of the puja chamber, also known as the altar, decked with flowers and incense.
The devotion of Navadurga, a particular manifestation of Goddess Durga, takes place on each day of Navratri. During the nine days, devotees follow a rigorous fast, refraining from eating any grains, meat, or dairy products, and drinking alcohol. First Day: Pratipada: Goddess Shailaputri, representing strength and purity.
Day 2: Dwitiya: Brahmacharini, the goddess of abstinence and knowledge.
Day 3: Tritiya: Goddess Chandraghanta, who represents grace and bravery.
Day 4: Chaturthi: The universe’s originator, Goddess Kushmanda.
Day 5: Panchami: Lord Skanda’s mother, Goddess Skandamata (Kartikeya).
Day 6: Shashti: Goddess Katyayani, Goddess Durga in her warrior aspect.
Day 7: Saptami: Goddess Kaalratri, who represents the destruction of darkness and ignorance.
Day 8: Ashtami: Goddess Mahagauri, the embodiment of tranquility and purity.
Day 9: Navami: Siddhidatri, the goddess, bestows wisdom and enlightenment on humanity.
